Royal Performers

The Shire is full of musicians, magicians and scores of other unique entertainers to keep you busy all weekend! Check out the collection of performers slated for the 2012 season!

Barby Holder - Traditional and original songs and instrumental music - vocals, guitar and hammered dulcimer.

Burly Minstrels - Formed in 1996, the Burly Minstrels have delighted audiences from all walks of life everywhere they go. A high-powered duet comprised of Bob Bielefeld on the voice, flute and other wind instruments, and Jim Hancock on the guitar and voice. Their release, "This is the Chorus" has received accolades from fans and the press and is the favorite of children of all ages. From wild instrumental improvisation on medieval themes to sweet traditional ballads, their music leaves your toes tapping and makes you want to sing along.

Circa Paleo - Embracing rhythms and melodies that breach the boundaries of region and era, Circa Paleo draws upon varied global influences to bring unlikely musical combinations to the here and now.

Circus Vagabonds - The Circus Vagabonds is an exciting new age circus troupe specializing in a variety of skills including aerial acrobatics in fabric, trapeze, juggling, fire eating, stilt-walking, tumbling, partner balancing, rope-walking, hoop diving, live music, and interactive comedy/clowing.

Doc Volz - Doc Volz's magic show is an alternative asthetic-inspired comedy show starring world champion magician Larry Volz - as a time-traveling inventor, magician and medicine man. His magical inventions involve steampunk-style chemistry experiments and machinery that levitates, teleports, time travels, transmogrifies, turns invisible, titillates and inspires laughter and wonder. Doc Volz is also a comedy stage hypnotist and mentalist who has been entertaining crowds on television, at colleges, on cruise ships, in theaters and for corporate clients for over 20 years. He has won international awards for both his on-stage mysteries and his hypnosis show.

Empty Hats - The band if full of energy and will knock your socks off with hilarious banter, amazing music, endless talent and high spirits! If you've never seen them live, you're really missing out. Perhaps you recognize their alter egos, Giacomo the Jester, Looney Lucy, and Demetrius from around the Faire grounds.

Fool Hearty - Fool Hearty shows are family oriented but funny for people of all ages. Beautifully costumed with well developed characters, they are both a great photo opportunity and a memorable experience for everyone!

Giacomo the Jester - Giacomo the Jester was born September 6, 1556 in Milano, Italy. He is the son of Zampano, jester to the Duke Orsino and of Gelsomina, a peasant woman from the surrounding area. He grew up learning the trades of both his parents. He apprenticed for many years with his father learning the arts of sorcery, juggling, ropewalking and storytelling. From his father he acquired his resourcefulness and a quick wit. From his mother he inherited his intuitive nature and warmth, as well as the skills of making both quilts and soaps. From her he derived his love of music and song.

Harper Lee - Her Majesty's Harper, Mary-Kate Lee can be found throughout the Shire, playing Celtic, Traditional and original music for all who pass her by.

Looney Lucy and Ploppy* - Looney Lucy & Ploppy have 2, count 'em 2, X-rated (that's a ten for the little nippers) comedy shows. These shows are steeped in double entendre and linger with an odor of innuendo.

Lords of Adventure - "The Token Two Man Comedy Sword Fighting Show That You Would See at an Outdoor Festival Show," show! Come see the twins, Roger Awesome and Jack Bold swing dangerous objects at each other for your entertainment pleasure, and teach you how to release the lord or lady of adventure that each of us has inside!

The Mad Mechanicals - It's like Shakespeare, only entertaining! This zany acting troupe takes the famous plays of William Shakespeare and...tweaks them. Rubber chickens give new life to the Bard's classics.

Mars Mandrake - Equal parts magic man, con man, and mad man! Having recently completed an 18-month "engagement" at the Tower of London, the mendacious magical mountebank is once again on the loose and eager to make your acquaintance. Mars has issued a standing challenge: He can perform a magic trick with ANY object handed to him! "I'm not a cheat, I'm a purveyor of non-traditional gaming methods!"

The Mud Squad - Three shows, three completely different stories and three idiots in the mud! "Splash Zone" seats optional at the raucous shows that prove children should stay in school!

Neidfyre - A solo artist with international flair, NeidFyre serenades with Scottish, Irish, English and Russian folk songs. A long Island transplant to Upstate, NY, Neidfyre plays traditional tunes on fiddle, sings with a genuine passion. She infuses vivactiy and sheer joy in her love of music. NeidFyre performs primarily on the East Coast, and can be seen at Celtic festivals, coffee houses, conventions, and anywhere Celtic and folk music is heard.

Noble Cause Productions - Noble Cause specializes in jousting, stage combat instruction, fight choreography, and horse stunts. Noble Cause is continually striving to reach new heights with breathtaking new shows. Based out of Southlake, Texas, they are dedicated to providing the highest quality shows for their audiences.

Paolo Garbanzo - Award winning entertainer Paolo Garbanzo, the First American to be an Official Jester of an English Castle, dazzles audiences all over the world with technical skill and comedy. The Paulo Garbanzo show is a fire-eating and juggling show not to be missed! He performs amazing stunts while keeping the audience laughing throughout his show! Paolo is a Sicilian peasant who made his way around the 'knowne world' performing for lords and ladies of many realms, stunning them with his death-defying stunts of fire-juggling and danger!

Pastimes - Pastimes is a medieval/Renaissance music consort that was formed in 1995 with the purpose of exploring and performing music and dance from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Their repertoire spans 300 years, from crusader songs to dances from Queen Elizabeth's court. Pastimes perform on authentic period instruments, and in historical costume. Featured instruments include strings, winds, drone instruments, and odd percussion instruments. Pastimes have performed in the mid-Atlantic and New England states, and Europe. Pastimes appear regularly at the Faire and at Medieval Fairs in Germany.

Royal Falconer - PRF's Royal Falconer Ash Cary will be on hand at the Aviary, located at the entrance to Bosworth Field, displaying his majestic birds of prey. Stop by to see these amazing birds in flight, and have all your burning bird questions answered!

Sir Isaac Fawlkes - Not your usual idea of a magician. He combines outrageous comedy and unusual magic to create a hysterical show that leaves audiences in tears of laughter.

Tilda Morning - This violinist can be found throughout the Shire using her musical powers during Peasant Dance or separately serenading you on the streets!
